    • on-the-job experience.
  • The apprentice program provides students with academic training required for their trade.
  • The training will result in a Certificate of Completion.
  • All academics for the certificate program will be given during working hours the first year of the program.
  • In the last three years of the program students will be given on-the-job learning and trade theory courses.
  • Participants take college level courses taught by Tidewater Community College (TCC) at a TCC Campus.
  • Students will be required to provide their own transportation while taking classes at the TCC Campus.
  • Compressed sessions will consist of 2 ten week sessions.
  • The apprentice earns a competitive wage while advancing to the journeymen level following a planned progressive training program.
  • All academic tuition and books costs are paid by the Shipyard provided the student receives a grade of "C" or better in the course work pursued.
  • Apprentices are employed at the pay rate of WG-1 and receive promotions upon successful completion of program requirements.
